Study Organizational and Strategic Communication at SBU

Nearly everyone works for some sort of organization; by studying for the organizational and strategic communication degree at SBU, you will be prepared for the many facets of working for an organization. You will be equipped to consider how organizations are formed and how strategic communication affects the workings of the organization.

The organizational and strategic communication degree is a career-oriented program and will equip you for a variety of public relations and communications careers in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Potential career paths include public relations, nonprofit work, social media management, development for nonprofit or corporate sectors, public opinion research, hospitality and tourism, real estate, sales and more.

The Organizational and Strategic Communication degree is offered through SBU's College of Arts and Sciences.

Organizational discourse and communication shape both the public perception of an organization as well as the culture within the organization. Consequently, both for-profit and nonprofit organizations require communicators who are committed to honesty and adhering to industry-specific ethical norms. SBU is committed to producing graduates who will be servant leaders with the character and values employers desire. You will learn to practice honest and ethical communication in all areas whether writing a press release, drafting a crisis communication plan or preparing an internal memorandum. You will be challenged to consider how your faith can be integrated in all aspects of your chosen career path.

Forensics

Join the Speaking Bearcats, SBU's nationally acclaimed forensics speech and debate team, which has won 12 Pi Kappa Delta (intercollegiate speech and debate honorary organization) national championships.

Student Media

Put your learning into action through participation in Infuse, SBU's podcast radio station reporting campus and community news. Get hands-on experience with content creation, production and distribution.
